LREC runs friendly horse archery rallies in partnership with the Australian Horse Archery Association (AHAA). Join AHAA first, then ride with us on the field.
The Australian Horse Archery Association (AHAA) is the governing body for the sport of mounted archery in Australia. It sets the safety standards, grading systems and competition formats that allow riders to develop their skills from beginner through to international competition.
Horse archery at LREC runs separately from our HRCAV side of the club. To shoot from horseback at our rallies, riders must first be financial members of AHAA — once you’re signed up with them, you’re welcome to join us on the field.
AHAA membership gives riders the framework and community needed to safely practice mounted archery in Australia.
AHAA membership provides national public liability and personal accident insurance whenever you're riding under AHAA rules.
A clear grading pathway lets you measure progress and compete against riders of similar skill at sanctioned events.
Compete in AHAA-sanctioned shoots, qualifiers and championships held around Australia throughout the year.
Join a network of mounted archers across the country — supportive, knowledgeable and welcoming to newcomers.
Once you’re a financial AHAA member, you’re welcome at our rallies. We cater to riders just starting out through to experienced competitors.

Ground-based and mounted intro sessions for new riders — learn the basics of the bow, safety on the field and shooting at the halt.

Regular rallies giving members time on the track to refine their technique at walk, trot and canter in a friendly, low-pressure environment.

Dedicated days where riders can work through the AHAA grading levels with experienced members supporting and observing.

Visiting and member-led clinics covering specific skills — Korean and Hungarian style tracks, ground archery and equine fitness for the sport.
Getting started in horse archery at LREC is straightforward. Begin by joining the Australian Horse Archery Association as a financial member — they handle your insurance, grading and national framework, and their website outlines current membership tiers and joining steps.
Once you’re an AHAA member, get in touch with LREC and we’ll let you know when our next rally or intro session is running. You don’t need to own a horse archery setup to start — come along, watch a session, and have a chat with our members about gear, suitable horses and what to expect on the field.
Sign up with AHAA, then get in touch — we’ll let you know when our next horse archery rally is running.
